In the 776 BC the Olympic Games were held at the foot of Mount Olympus to honour the Greeks’ chief God, Zeus. The Greeks emphasized physical fitness and strength in their education of youth. Contests in running, jumping, discus and javelin throwing, boxing, and horse chariot racing were held in individual cities, and the winners of the local contest competed four years at Mount Olympus. Winners were greatly honoured by having olive wreaths placed on their heads and poems were sung about their deeds. Originally, these were held as games of friendship, and any wars in progress were halted to allow the games to take place.
The Greeks attached so much importance to these games that they calculated time in four-year cycles called “Olympiad" dating from 776 BC.

WRITING
Write about one of the competitions for secondary school students on TV. You may use the following guidelines. (Viết về một trong những cuộc thi đấu cho học sinh trung học phổ thông trên tivi. Em có thể dùng những gợi ý sau.)
It was great fun I happened to watch a competition in “Knowledge of Traffic Laws” for secondary school students on TV.
The competition, organized by the Service of Education and Training with the help of the Department of Communication and the Service of Police, was on Channel HTV 9 at 8:00 a.m. last Saturday.
The show lasted forty - five minutes. The participants were the students of five secondary schools in the city. And the examiners were police officers. The teams were to answer the questions about traffic laws.
At the end, the team of Bui Thi Xuan Secondary School won the competition. The show was both interesting and useful. It helped people, specially school population to understand the importance of traffic laws as well as serious damage caused by violation.
I hope there will be more such useful shows on TV.
